We do design appointments year-round, and do the drawings and design plans in the winter dormant months. We do landscaping from the time the snow melts in Spring and work up to the first snow in Winter.
You can expect us to give you our best, to bring expertise and passion to the project, to treat your property as if it were our own, to communicate with you in the process of developing a plan, and the important decisions of what stays and goes, and to transform your space into something unique and wonder, no matter how small or large.

Treeskirt Gardens retail plants can range from $5 to $150, some trees can be more costly depending on their age and size. All sales are done on an individual basis at the Treeskirt Garden, and, at the Farmers Market in Cloquet on Saturdays from June through the first weekend in September. We are available for appointments from May through October for retail services. Call or text if you are interested in purchasing plants during our availale months.
1. Design
How do you want to use your space? What kind of feelings do you want your space to suggest; romantic or magical, modern and clean, wild yet defined, etc … ? Let’s talk about color palettes and your favorite plant choices. What is your budget for the project, or, for one season?
Every garden should have walkable areas that can be the starting point of your garden design. Your information will be formatted into a personal design that makes sense for your space and how you live in it. The design can be built to scale or have some built-in flexibility, my personal favorite! The design is the plan for the hard work that brings your space to life. Treeskirt can offer a one-of-a-kind hand-drawn design to include a step-by-step process for those of you who want the satisfaction of doing the work yourself! The design is usually 20-30 percent of the overall cost of the project.
2. Landscaping
This part of the process includes time, time, and more time. Making a garden is the most time-consuming, labor-intensive activity I have ever done. It is also the most rewarding activity I’ve known. It will open you to knowing yourself and the environment you are working in. This part of the process can be tailored to fit your needs. This is a labor-intensive process, the price of the labor could be roughly 70-80 percent of the overall cost of the project. Remember a garden is always under some kind of change, improving your garden is an investment in your quality of life with your property.
3. Plant Retail & Garden Maintenance
To maintain a garden the soil must be fed with compost, humus-rich material, weeded regularly, watered, pruned, divided, and continually changing due to the changes in the seasons as well as the gardeners’ new loves. One year you may be in love with hellebore and the next year it might be hydrangeas. Falling in love with a new plant every year will increase your plant variety. Regardless, your garden will need lots of love and labor. Some of the Treeskirt services include:
trimming and removal of trees smaller than 12” in diameter.
