Treeskirt is a female-owned business with 24 years of experience using land as material for creating. We are interested in outdoor spaces, that are a source for rejuvenation, play, and self-discovery. My name is Wanda, I own Treeskirt Gardens. My dream is to bring expertise in soil-making, landscaping, and creative thinking to property owners desiring transformed “spaces”. I am first and foremost an artist with degrees in the fine arts, a BFA from the University of Minnesota, and an MFA from Louisiana State University. Studying movement, visual arts, sculpture, painting, and environmental art was my passion for the better part of 2 decades. Over the years, all my time was spent in outdoor spaces, using soil and plant life as artistic material, creating art to fall in love with. Taking risks ultimately expanded my understanding of a garden’s creative potential.  It is easy to understand that a garden is an ecosystem, where everything is connected; however, it can be a challenge to maintain a thriving community in a garden because death is a part of the process in all life forms. Gardeners have to become skilled at triage in every garden they care for. Creative horticulture with a focus on “the betterment of the community” is the core of Treeskirt design, sometimes you have to let go of some plants to enable others to thrive. Many of you do this when you are weeding, so, you get the process. Sometimes, it means you have to lose an “actor” in the garden space that you’ve grown to love. Grieving for a tree that has outgrown its space means we are giving the garden community our whole heart. All in all, triage is the process we use when deciding what stays, what gets watered, and what needs to go. The result of a transformed landscape from a Treeskirt design can be classic, playful, highly designed, or a wild experimentation.  What they all have in common is that they are spaces that are lived in by humans and wildlife.  Using organic products and processes, in exploring ways to live with and learn from nature is what Treeskirt continues to expand in all our projects. It is our honor to work with the land, to both cultivate and design it with plant-life and wild-life needs taken into consideration to construct an inspiring garden oasis right outside your window.
